Student Financial Support

UAI will provide financial support for (1) student authors of accepted papers and (2) student volunteers who help run the registration desk. Student authors receiving support can obtain additional financial support by volunteering to help with registration. More information about each of these options is available below.

 

Student Author Information

Application deadline: June 14, 2004

UAI has funds available to provide financial support to student authors of papers at UAI-04. Each student author must register for the conference and apply by the deadline to be eligible for financial support.

Funding Details

Student authors (who apply by the deadline) will be provided financial support for travel costs. Financial support for students is made possible by donations and grants. The amount of support will be determined by the donations, the number of students applying for support, and expected travel costs for the students.

How to Apply

Students wishing to receive a UAI student author travel scholarship should send an application with the following information:

• Name, Institution, and email address.
• Expected travel costs.
• Title and tracking number of accepted paper.
• Letter of support from their advisor that also states their student status (if not already submitted)

Student Volunteer Information

Application deadline: June 14, 2004

UAI has funds available to provide financial support to a limited number of students. Each student will be required to work a certain number of hours at the conference in exchange for their support. The number of hours will be between 6 and 12; we will notify students of their commitment once the conference schedule is set. Each student must register for the conference and apply by the deadline to be eligible for financial support

Funding Details

Financial support for students is made possible by donations and grants. We aim to offer support for registration fees for the conference. Funded students will be notified of the amount of support we will provide.

Student Duties

If you are selected for financial support, you should expect to devote approximately 6-12 hours to helping to keep the conference running smoothly. The duties may include:

• Assembling registration packets
• Checking people in at the registration desk
• General assistance at conference talks and workshops
• Checking badges at receptions

How to Apply

Students wishing to receive a UAI travel scholarship should send an application with the following information:

• Summary of research (1 page)
• Vita (2 pages)
• Letter of support from their advisor that also states their student status

 

The application should also include the following information:

• Name
• Institution
• Address
• Email
• Stage of education
• Name of advisor
• Restriction on days and times that you can work
• Paper and tracking number of accepted papers at UAI conference or workshop (if any; students with papers will be given priority)
